Emerging Nottinghamshire children’s author and illustrator, Jo Bekis, launched her first published book at Mansfield’s iCentre last night, before a buzzing audience of over 50 local supporters and well-wishers.
Bubble and Butterfly is the first in a series of colourful books written by Jo, following the journey of her new character Bubble and the discovery of new friends and places along the way.
The event, funded by local business support agency LEO, featured a book reading and Jo’s own story so far, and was well received by all - including a small group of children from neighbouring nursery, Smarties.
“The launch was delightful”, said Kate Warsop, LEO Business Adviser who has been working with Jo since 2008. “During the book reading the children were truly captivated and loved her character Bubble - what better accolade could Jo ask for?”
Bubble and Butterfly has been published by US company, Strategic Book Publishing, keen to add a children’s educational title to their portfolio. It is available in the UK via online bookseller, Amazon, and in the US via its WH Smith ‘equivalent’ Barnes & Noble.
Jo’s next big challenge will be to secure a UK publisher: “I’m thrilled with my US publisher’s support and acknowledgement, but would love to have a UK publisher take on Bubble and make my books more readily available here at home,” said Jo.

It is hoped that her recent application to appear on a 'Dragon’s Den' style reality show to be produced by broadcasting company 'two four' and aired on the BBC, will be successful and give her a huge boost for the future.
