Management Coaching and Mentoring for Enterprise Academy Teachers
Providing the learning and inspiration for young people to be enterprising can be a challenge for teachers, which is why LEO has recognised the need to help teachers develop their own skills in this area.
LEO has contracted a local company, NoLimits, to deliver its Enterprise Academy initially in six schools within the LEO area, increasing to nine this September.
In addition to working directly with students, NoLimits is delivering an Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 5 Certificate in Management Coaching and Mentoring to teachers from the participating schools.
The course, which includes business thinking, is proving to be valuable for teachers responsible for leading initiatives and teams within schools, especially the enterprise coordinators.
Teachers from most of the participating schools take half days out of their teaching commitments to undertake the ILM qualification, which should help them develop their leadership and management skills.
Feedback from the teachers has been extremely positive:
“I am now in the frame of mind to start to think more carefully about myself and the way I work with staff in my school.”
“I now have a good understanding of what is meant by coaching, training, mentoring and counselling.”
“I particularly enjoy the emphasis on “doing” rather than talking about doing”
“This is one of the few courses I’ve been on that gives you what you need and things you can use in school straight away.”
